About Akiya For Sale

Akiya For Sale is made by Viktor, an independent developer in Denmark. It started with a simple frustration: Japan's empty houses are listed on hundreds of separate town websites, in Japanese, and most English sites that collect them charge every month or hide the details.

Where the homes come from

Every home comes from a municipal akiya bank: the list a Japanese town keeps of empty houses it wants to see lived in again. We collect them every night, translate them, and flag what could make a cheap house expensive. Photos are shown from the town's akiya bank, and all rights stay with the owner.

How it makes money

Browsing is free. For $29, once, you get every listing in full English, the link to the original listing, what each red flag means, letters to the town in Japanese, and same-day alerts. No subscription, no ads in the map, no commission on any sale.

What we don't do
